This is my favorite LOCAL art supply shop. It's my happy place and it makes my heart all giddy just by walking through the store, looking at what they offer. Art has a way of bringing us home to ourselves. And somehow, stepping into Drawing House feels like part of that journey. It’s quiet, cozy, a little magical—like the kind of place where beautiful things begin. In a world full of automated everything, it's so comforting to know I can come to Drawing House and find someone friendly to talk to about what I love. Thanks to their wonderful staff, I have found about new techniques and art goodies that I would have never had found while shopping online on those massive online sellers. I don't come here for the price, I come here for the whole experience. I hope more people can support local, Barrie needs more magical places like this!!!
I love this place. There is a cool student wall with lots of students awesome art, the atmosphere of the desk where the paint is is comforting and the best feeling ever, there is everything I could need in an art store, when you step in the spot between the student wall and the checkout desk, it is a spot that is that makes you feel better. picking out an art supply there is like Christmas, you purcahse r a item you want and when you buy the item it is like waiting home to check out you new item. when you purchase it it is like wisting to open a present. The classroom has lots of students artwork and it makes you feel better, Neil and his staff are welcoming and nice people :)
What a fabulous place! There are so many things I could say about this place, but I have to keep it short. Staff are extremely knowledgeable. Their prices are realistic. The information I received made me feel really comfortable, and it brought joy to the art of painting. I ended up purchasing just what I needed without having to go overboard. I actually had intended to come in and purchase an eraser for my daughter;) A fine example of what you want in an art store. I’m looking forward to going back again the next time I’m in Barrie, Ontario.
Im currently working on a large coloured pencil piece and I went into The Drawing House to get a high coverage white pencil and upon recommendation was directed to the Holbein Soft white. I already had a derwent coloursoft and was picking up the Holbein white for a current commission and decided to take both pencils home to compare to the Derwent Coloursoft I had at home. I was so impressed with the Holbein white and decided to do a colour swatcc comparison. I am loving this new pencil!!!!! I love visiting the Drawing House. I always feel welcome - all of the staff I have met are wonderful and kind, and full of knowledge. Its a small space with a lot of stuff, I love to look around and always leave with something new. Always look forward to my visits. Thanks for being there for the artist community in Barrie!
Had a lesson here with Neil. He was professional and knowledgeable. He really made a difference in my art process by simply showing me tweaks to make. They are also the only place in Barrie that has the Paper co watercolor sketchbook (as far as I know). What an amazing place. Will go back for sure!
Wow...I just dropped in with my 6 year old daughter and bought supplies. We were treated like family. One of the best experiences I've had at a supply store. This is where I'm buying my supplies for now on. Please check this place out and see for yourself...I didnt feel like just a number there.
