I'm only giving 1 star because it won't allow me to give less. A bit of a rant but believe me, this will be short compared to what's really on my mind regarding United Lumber in Barrie. My husband and I are currently building a home and are experiencing nothing but headaches, additional expenses and set backs due to issues from united lumber and united truss. There's a bit of a list but the biggest issue is regarding the Jeld Wen hybrid windows we ordered through United lumber. They were scheduled to be delivered Friday August 24th. We received a phone call at 3 o'clock that Friday stating we weren't actually going to get our windows that day but they would instead be delivered the Saturday morning. We had hired a crew of 4 guys to off load and install the windows. The crew was on site again for 8am at which time they stood around until 1pm before the delivery truck finally showed up. As the windows were being off loaded...the crew started to notice major damages which appeared to be caused by rubbing during transport. I had the United Lumber delivery guys make note on the invoice that the windows were damaged and at that time they stated "it wasnt them, they were damaged before they loaded them that day". They left the windows on our site and Monday morning I began to make phone calls. It took until Sept 14th before United lumber and Jeld Wen came to a decision to send the windows back to Quebec to have them repaired. We were promised the windows back Oct 1...keeping in mind that this is already a 1.5 month set back. On friday, Sept 28 I receive a phone call from United Truss informing me that the best case scenario return date is now Oct 11th. Our electrician has been turned away, our exterior crew that was scheduled and should now be complete, cant even start, the cold weather is upon us and no one from United Lumber or Jeld Wen feels we are entitled to any sort of compensation. Jeld Wen actually said to me on the phone that they are going over and above their warranty just by repairing them. The store manager at United Truss that continues to say he going to call us with answers, continues to avoid us. I threatened to cancel the order knowing that they wouldn't do well on the return for the windows trying to sell them in a garage sale...however they know that we need them to get "closed in" so my threat got me no where. We also had several issues and additional expenses with their trusses. If I were you, I'd avoid Barrie's United Truss. Nothing but stress and headache.

Horrible service all the old men were standing around talking and not working I asked for help to get paint supplies the one guy pointed and said aile 8 and I asked well can you show me and take me there as I have questions.. he replied hold on I will get some one..a very nice lady helped us and gave us the right paint and supplies needed and I seen in the back a young girl doing all the heavy lifting and not one guy actually helped her in the back.horrible service and piss poor staff the men were just lazy ..if you are to go to home hardware go to Robinson Home hardware on penetanguishene road in Barrie they have the best staff and the staff there actually help and walk you over to the section you need and stick around to answer all your questions

Staff was very helpful in providing options for paint within the budget, and figuring out a colour scheme. All very friendly and helpful!

This store is hands down the worst home hardware I think I've ever been to. I'd rather give my money to an American business like Home Depot over this terrible establishment. As a previous employee and customer I can assure you they take little to no care of any of the products there. Fork lift drivers ram into skids of wood either destroying them or damaging them badly before they put them on display for customers to come and buy. Ever wonder why your wood sucks when you shop here? That's a big part of the reason why. They just don't care. Also the staff especially out back are diluted individuals who don't care about customer service. They Only care about themselves and coming into work so they can pay the bills. Your delivery drivers are the exact same. They'll just throw your ordered and paid for items all over your driveway with out a care if it gets damaged. I know this because I've seen it happen many times with my own eyes when I was told to accompany drivers to help deliver. Also on a more personal note, another reason why this place is God awful is that they take advantage of student workers or any part time worker by making them work ridiculous hours. First week as a STUDENT part timer I worked 54 hours from Tuesday to the next Tuesday, no days off. Place is a joke.

Interesting experience where upon entry employees kinda ignore you. But eventually someone emerges and is so helpful and courteous.
