Kirat the Asst Manager helped us with our outdoor furniture selections. She was welcoming and provided excellent service throughout our selection process. She gave helpful insights and answered all our questions. A pleasure to deal with.
We went to DOT for the very first time to buy two outdoor patio tables each with six chairs and spent over $7k. The saleswoman Donna told us that there was an upcoming sale at the end of August and that if anything we bought did end up going on sale, that they'd credit us the difference. After spending so much, we were very surprised that they did not offer free local delivery. We had to arrange to bring a large trailer to pick up everything. The pickup did not go very smoothly as we had hoped and unfortunately not enough characters allowed here to go into more detail. After leaving the store, my wife called Donna to check if the upcoming sale had any discounts on the merchandise we had just bought so we could get credited any difference if in fact anything did go on sale. She responded that she didn't think so, but to wait while she checked on the computer. After checking, she told my wife that none of the pricing would change for the sale and so there would be no credit. After getting the merchandise home, we realized that there were a number of problems with various items. Chairs were scratched up and were stacked without individual packaging, feet were missing from chairs, etc. It was clear that some of the chairs were received from another store and were likely damaged returns. It was evident that nobody even cared to check that our order was complete and included quality "new" merchandise as one would expect for this amount of money. The next day we returned 5 chairs to the store and expressed how disappointed we were that they gave us damaged merchandise with missing parts. Donna said she would have Jane the manager take care of this since she was going to be away on vacation for two weeks. I also asked Donna a second time if there were any changes to the pricing that would get us a credit back as she had mentioned prior to our placing the order. She confirmed by saying that there were no changes to the pricing of the items we had purchased. Before leaving the store, I decided that I wanted to take a quick look at the same table and chairs in the showroom. At that time I noticed two signs on the table that showed that there were in fact two promotions - one offering to save the tax (13% HST) on all regular priced items, and another offer for 40% off on chairs that were floor models. We realized that we were lied to and after dealing with Jane a day later, we ended up obtaining a refund of over $1300 from the combined sales. This is no small amount of money to be lied to about!!! If we didn't go back to the store showroom and see for ourselves, we would have lost this money!!! Further from this, the furniture items seemed to be made with a severe lack of quality control and horrible assembly instructions. As I explained to Jane, this was an opportunity for them to make up for the terrible experience we had in some sort of way so they can perhaps restore our faith in them as a business. Otherwise, I did say that we'd have no recourse but to simply leave them a 1-star google review of our experience and warn others. Clearly, they could not be bothered to even try to "right their wrongs" as the only thing they were willing to do was to offer us 7% savings on their overpriced cushions that we showed interest in. If this were my business, I would have offered the cushions (or at least some compensation) at no charge to make things right and attempt to salvage their reputation from a very negative experience. Clearly DOT is not interested in taking the time to make sure that customers get new merchandise that is not damaged, whether it comes from other store locations or not. Being lied to twice is also a huge negative when buying from a business you would anticipate that you can trust. I think consumers don't mind spending a little more money if it means getting quality merchandise. In this case, not only did they try to stick us with damaged product, but lied to us. We appreciate Jane's help to remedy this situation with the refund, but will not return to buy from them again.
Horrible staff at Barrie location. Guy playing on phone couldn't give me any help. Bought some cute tiny planters no bags or anything to carry them out. After my purchase no thank you or nothing he just went back to playing his phone. Boy... customers are such a pain eh?
DOT has a great variety of furniture, reasonable prices and very good quality. I really like to visit the store and have bought there since we moved to Barrie. The staff is very knowledgeable and eager to help. Recommend it!
